Derma Fillers

Dermal fillers restore volume and are used to correct wrinkles and soft tissue loss due to aging. They are injected into the superficial layers of the skin and are most commonly used in the smile lines, lips and corners of the mouth. Advanced techniques involve the use of certain fillers around the eyes and cheek bones to restore a more youthful look.

Restylane, our most commonly used dermal filler, has an excellent safety profile. Restylane® is made of hyaluronic acid, a compound found naturally in the body, and is injected in the smile lines, under the eyes, and in the lips if desired. Results last 4 – 9 months depending on the site injected.

What kind of results can I expect?

Restylane Silk has been especially designed to provide precise lip definition and treatment of those pesky vertical lip lines that your lipstick runs into, making your lips look older. It is the first FDA approved filler specifically for the lips. Restylane Silk will provide a natural appearing lip enhancement. No duck lips! No sausage lips! Your lips will look fuller with more pout, just like they did when you were younger.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my Dermal Filler last?

Dermal fillers are long-lasting, but not permanent, as they will gradually break down and leave he body. How long you get from your filler depends on many factors-your skin type; your age, your lifestyle.

You’ll usually expect to need a top-up treatment after 6-12 months, depending on the areas treated; and once you’ve had filler done twice you’ll have a better idea of how your body responds and expected duration of the effects.

Who cannot use Filler?

Dermal fillers should not be used in or near areas where there is or has been a skin disease, inflammation or skin- related problems.

Cosmetic Doctor does not recommend the use of fillers or anti-wrinkle injectables whilst you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

People with particular medical conditions or those undergoing immunosuppressive therapy may not be good candidates for any treatments or procedures that require a skin injection procedure, due to a risk of infection.

It’s important to reveal all your medical history to our medical staff on your initial pre-treatment consultation so she can make an informed decision about your treatment plan.

Will I need Pain Medication?

Filler injection isn’t usually too uncomfortable unless you’re very sensitive; you can request use of an anesthetic cream which can be applied to the area before injection.

The lips are a quite sensitive, and Cosmetic Doctor can use dermal filler product containing the local anesthetic lidocaine to make the experience more comfortable for the patient.

Are there any Risks?

Filler-related reactions are very rare, especially when they are professionally used by a doctor. There are some reports of injection-related reactions that happen after any injection, like a bit of bruising or selling, which resolve on their own in a few days.

Lips can be a little tender and there may be some swelling for a few days, although we use Juvederm Smile™ which has no downtime and minimal swelling.
